I believe history will characterize the Trump era, with its incompetent president enabled by a cowardly Republican Party, as one of the most destructive this nation has ever endured. Yet, Sen. Chuck Grassley said one day after the attack on our capitol, “We’ve rigorously debated differing philosophies and endured disagreements on policy and leadership, through it all, our shared values have held strong.”
What values, senator? Your party remained silent for four years as Trump made shambles of our democracy. Where were you when Trump refused to mobilize a national effort to combat COVID-19? How many of the nearly 400,000 deaths could have been saved?
Where were you when Trump was separating immigrant children from their parents, or sabotaging the post office, or doing nothing when Russia was hacking our voting process? The list goes on. Your silence had consequences, senator. Your principals did not remain strong.
