In the midst of the impeachment hearing chaos in our nation’s capital, it is nice to know other things are still getting done. While some complain that all Democrats want to do is impeach the president, and Republicans put lipstick on his latest criminal behavior, U.S. Rep. Abby Finkenauer is working to lower the cost of prescription drugs for families and seniors.
Whether you’re a child with asthma, a teen with diabetes, or an older American with an illness, the Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019 — a bill Finkenauer co-signed — is moving its way through the House of Representatives. This bill will bring drug prices down by giving Medicare the power to negotiate for lower drug prices on behalf of Medicare recipients and those on private insurance. This legislation will reduce the cost of the most expensive prescription drugs by as much as 55 percent and by nearly $2,000 per year for the average family of four.
Big pharmaceutical companies have always seemed to care more about the almighty dollar than providing cost-effective medications and it’s long past time we reverse this trend and put people before profits. Thank you Rep. Finkenauer for staying focused on improving this country’s dismal record on health care — and many other issues — while also upholding the rule of law and being a necessary and constitutional check on the executive branch of government.
