In my 20-plus years working in local government, I learned that there are certain attributes you want in a City Council member. Someone on the council needs to have a vision for the future of the city.
A council member should be someone who always is prepared to address an issue by studying the material they are given and listening to information and opinions that are presented to them. Someone who will ask questions and ensure there is an answer. Someone who has an open mind. Someone who is thoughtful. Someone who will make a decision based on their sense of what is in the best interest of the larger community.
Ann Freerks is such a person. Ann has a strong track record of diligence and hard work on the Iowa City Planning and Zoning Commission where she was charged with making recommendations to the City Council on issues about where people live, work and play. She did this with a commitment to being informed on the various aspects of a project, evaluating its benefits, requiring changes to its liabilities, all with a vision to achieving a city with healthy, diverse neighborhoods connected to each other to make a vital and welcoming city. Ann always will listen, will ask the tough questions, and is ready to make sound decisions for the future of Iowa City.
Please support Freerks in the Oct. 2 special election for Iowa City Council member.
