Ernst must do more to help children at the border

How does Sen. Joni Ernst sleep at night knowing what we have all learned about the treatment of innocent children of asylum-seekers at our southern border?

If anyone subjected Ernst’s family members to this kind of treatment, I am sure she would do more than make ‘em squeal to prevent it. Why is she turning a blind eye to children pried from their parents and forced to sleep on the cement floor in cages as well as being denied access to the most basic human needs like adequate nutrition, hygiene and medical care? I have called her office daily about my concerns but received a generic response that did not really address those concerns.

I agree with Sr. Emily Devine, RSM, in her recent letter that the asylum-seekers are desperately trying to escape life-threatening situations. How far would we go and how much would we do to protect the lives of our children? Are our representatives so indebted to the rich and powerful that they can ignore the suffering of these children and their families?

What would Jesus say? I believe Jesus would say to help these people and their children!

So what can the public do? Call Ernst daily if needed to protest these devastating actions by our government. And emphasize that this abhorrent policy needs to be stopped immediately, not just covered up by the Trump administration. We, the people, and our representatives must hold this administration accountable.
