Bobby Kaufmann isn't bipartisan

Iowa House District 73 Rep. Bobby Kaufmann claims he works in a bipartisan way, but, in reality, he says one thing and then robotically votes the Republican Party line.

When initially contacted he acts concerned. But if you contact Kaufmann too often, or disagree with him at his town halls, you are labeled an “attack partisan” and he will no longer respond.

In February 2017, I contacted him regarding proposed defunding of Planned Parenthood, and he replied: “I plan to vote no to defund Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood offers many health services that are vital to many women, and as you said are sometimes the primary care services for rural areas … I want to vote the way that represents and benefits my constituents, as well. It is not my job, nor is it my place, to make women’s health care decisions.” Yet he voted for the defunding and also for the fetal heartbeat bill. Who is he representing?

A February 2018 Iowa Poll showed 71 percent of Iowans want the state to resume paying Planned Parenthood for non-abortion services, and a 2014 Pew Research poll showed the majority (52 percent) of Iowans believe abortion should be legal in all/most cases.

Residents of HD73 can do better. I will support Jodi Clemens on Nov. 6. She has shown a willingness to talk to anyone in the district and will truly “walk the walk” by working in a bipartisan way instead of just “talking the talk.”
