A mask order is needed in Iowa

President Donald Trump and Gov. Kim Reynolds have something in common: both defer to “some people” who apparently contradict known facts or experts. Who are these people? What are their names and credentials? Why do their opinions outweigh those of the CDC, WHO, the Iowa Chapter of the American College of Physicians and the Iowa Public Health Department? We never get that information from either Trump or Reynolds.

Reynolds has also said, “There’s not a silver bullet. There’s not a single answer.” A mask may not be THE answer, but it’s been shown to be part of the answer. I think something’s better than nothing.

She’s said a mask order would be “difficult to enforce.” Forty-two states have mask orders in place — why doesn’t Reynolds seek the advice of any of those governors about their experience?

The number of infections and deaths in Iowa keeps rising. We don’t need a weekly report of numbers — we need action. A mask order would be a good start.
