I want to serve the community to the best of my abilities in a leadership position and provide a different point of view from those already on council. I grew up in Iowa City and have a passion for improving the community that I love. I chose to stay in Iowa City as a young professional because I saw an opportunity to grow with my employer and with the community. I believe we should continue to grow and strive to be the progressive, welcoming, “hip” urban center of Iowa.
We must focus on economic development, especially by fostering and supporting locally grown and owned businesses (especially incentivizing businesses owned by women and people of color). We must allow bigger (taller) developments in our community to help meet the ever-growing demands for housing, especially by our younger professional community, as well as our older, retired community.
I think we live in a community that already cares so much about doing the right thing, that we don’t have to fight for funding for our amazing social, arts and place-making programs and organizations that exist. But we must make sure we continue to grow our tax base, so we are able to continue to fund them.
We also must work with our university community to better streamline systems like transportation, listen to the voices of our graduate and undergraduate students, and create easier platforms of communication between city staff and leadership and the rest of our community.
