Washington — A student in the Washington Commmunity School District was taken into custody Tuesday after it was learned that he or she had brought a gun to school.
In a joint media release from the Washington Police Department and Washington Schools the following was described:
Earlier in the day the district received information that a student may have brought a gun into school. At this the district followed up by contacting law inforcement and responded to the information working together with police. After an investigation, a student was found to be in possession of gun on school grounds and was taken into custody. The student was charged with possession of stolen property and carrying weapons.
The district says there was no threat to the safety of students or staff members, and district officials will continue to work with police on the situation.
The Washington School District and Washington Police Department said they had no other comment at this time.
