Cedar Rapids Police are investigating a call for shots fired near Third Street and 12th Avenue SW at approximately 12:40 a.m.this morning.

According to Cedar Rapids public safety spokesman Greg Buelow, a vehicle reportedly was seen leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. It is unknown whether the vehicle was a victim or the suspect vehicle.

Shell casings were located by officers in the area and the house at 1205 Third St. SW was struck by gunfire.

No victims were located at the scene.

The suspected vehicle that left at a high rate of speed struck a tree in the area of 12th Ave. and Third St. SW, and all occupants fled.

The vehicle’s windshield was broken, and no individuals were found at the scene, Buelow said.

Approximately an hour and a half later, a 17-year-old male arrived at a hospital with a facial laceration consistent with striking a windshield.

To this point, the individual has been uncooperative with investigators, and the investigation remains active.
