A Marion woman is hospitalized with grave injuries after her boyfriend assaulted her Thursday morning, according to records and interviews.
Marion police responded to reports of a disturbance about 2:53 a.m. in an apartment at 795 Bentley Drive.
According to a criminal complaint, Cody Brown, 27, said he and his girlfriend were arguing when he picked her up and threw her to the ground. She was found unresponsive on the living room floor when police arrived, according to the complaint.
She was taken to a hospital where preliminary indications showed she had suffered a serious brain injury.
Marion police Lt. Lance Miller said Friday she is being treated at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with possible life-threatening injuries.
Kyle Hoffman, 34, of Cedar Rapids, a friend and former co-worker of the woman, said she has two daughters.
“No matter what, there’s going to be a bunch of people that come together and support the family,” he said. “We just want to make sure they’re taken care of.”

Hoffman said he did not know of any violent history between Brown and the victim, and to hear of it was shocking.
“She has a lot of friends in Cedar Rapids, a lot of co-workers and friends that I know who are just torn up, just upset,” he said. “She’s a good listener, she’s a good person, she’s a good friend. There’s a lot of people worried about her right now. … We’re looking for a miracle.”
Police arrested Brown Thursday on a charge of assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony.
Court records show he posted a $20,000 bond and was released from the Linn County Jail. Marion police said the incident remains under investigation.
