Naked man sightings in Cedar Rapids lead to arrest

CEDAR RAPIDS — Police arrested a Cedar Rapids man Tuesday night after receiving multiple reports of a naked man seen in various parts of the city.

According to the arrest report, police responded just after 9 p.m. to the 1100 block of First Avenue SE when a caller reported seeing a man pull down his pants, expose his rear end and rub it on a parking pylon.

When officers arrived, they identified the man as Shamma J. Finch, 32, according to the report. Officers said Finch was clothed when they arrived. When they spoke to him, he stated he was waiting for a ride.

A short time later, police said security at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s Hospital security fielded a call reporting a naked man seen in a parking garage across from the St. Luke’s Birth Care Center at 150 11th St. NE. That call came just after 10:30 p.m., police said.

Soon after, the report states hospital security received a second call reporting a naked man near the Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa building in the 200 block of 10th Street SE. Hospital security notified police, according to the report.

When they arrived, officers said they found Finch near the Physicians’ Clinic building naked, lying on his back.

Finch was taken into custody and faces a charge of public exposure.
