18-year-old Brighton woman dies from train, vehicle crash

An 18-year-old Brighton woman died during an incident involving a train near the railroad crossing on Iris St. in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa on July 28, 2018.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Lydia Danielle Johnson, 18, was driving northbound on Iris St. near the railroad crossing, when the gates were down and lights were flashing to indicate an approaching train.

According to the officer’s report, Johnson attempted to drive around the gates and was struck broadside by a westbound train.

The report states she was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, but died from her injuries.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mt. Pleasant.
