The North Liberty Fareway store will be closed for an indefinite period of time after a fire in one of the store’s refrigerators Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the store at 615 Westwood Drive at 10:32 a.m. Sunday for alarms going off and smoke coming from the store’s roof. Crews discovered that the entire store had filled with smoke and that a refrigerator in the store’s produce section was on fire. Sprinklers in the store helped keep the fire in check until firefighters extinguished it.

The store was closed at the time of the fire, fire officials said in a news release. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is believed to have started in the refrigerator’s electric motor. A damage estimate was unavailable, and it’s unclear how long the store may be closed.

No injuries were reported.
