IOWA CITY — An Iowa City restaurant was vandalized by one of its employees, police said.
William M. Hebets, 24, of Iowa City, is charged with first-degree criminal mischief — a felony — after Linn Street Dive was found damaged.
An officer was called Monday to the restaurant at 117 N. Linn St. for a report of vandalism, an Iowa City police criminal complaint said.
Police said the dining room, kitchen and cooler area had been sprayed extensively with a fire extinguisher. Glass windows and bottles were shattered, and vinegar and cooking oil were sprayed on the walls.
The cost to clean up the restaurant is estimated at $10,000 to $15,000.
The restaurant owner reviewed surveillance footage and recognized the suspect as Hebets, who was one of her employees, police said.
