Iowa City man faces sexual abuse charge for 2016 incident

IOWA CITY — An Iowa City man faces up to 10 years in prison for a sexual assault alleged to have occurred nearly two years ago.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, on April 2, 2016, the victim — who was 12 or 13 years old at the time — woke up in her Iowa City home and discovered 30-year-old Bartolo M. Arciniega laying down on the side of her bed in an attempt to hide. The girl also discovered evidence of inappropriate sexual conduct, authorities said.

Arciniega has been arrested and faces one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
