Iowa City Fire Department responds to garage fire on Eastwood Drive

A nearby residence received light damage and occupants were evacuated after a garage fire broke out at 2807 Eastwood Drive Thursday afternoon.

According to an Iowa City Fire Department media release, at 1:34 p.m. firefighters responded to a report of a garage fire. The first unit of firefighters arrived on scene four minutes after receiving notification, according to the release, and they reported a garage fire with light smoke emitting from a split-foyer style residence. All occupants had evacuated before firefighters arrived and the fire was contained to the garage and extinguished within fifteen minutes of arrival by the fire department.

Fire damage included damage directly to the garage and smoke damage throughout the residence, according to the release. A cost estimate of the loss is not yet available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Department.

Outside agency support and assistance was provided by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center and Mid-American Energy.
