One motorcyclist is dead and another injured after a semi-trailer truck struck their bikes Wednesday on Interstate 80.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred in the eastbound lane about 5:40 p.m. between Iowa City and West Branch.

The two motorcyclists were traveling together and started slowing for stopped traffic ahead due to a previous wreck. The semi traveling behind them was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of both motorcycles. All three vehicles came to rest in a ditch, according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation.
