Coralville man uses stolen checkbook, juvenile, in forgery attempts

A Coralville man faces multiple charges stemming from his use of a stolen checkbook.

According to a Coralville Police Department complaint, Eric Tyrece Flowers, 20 allegedly purchased a checkbook from someone on the street, and without authorization from the checkbook’s owner, began writing checks to himself.

The complaint details multiple attempts by Flowers on July 26 to write a check, and ask a 17-year-old female to go into a bank and attempt to cash it.

The checks were written for $800, and Flowers promised the juvenile $250 from each check she cashed.

The complaint lists a US Bank and a University of Iowa Community Credit Union branch as locations the pair attempted to cash the forged checks.

Flowers has been arrested on one count of third degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Two counts of forgery, a Class D felony, and two counts of using a juvenile to commit an indictable offense, a Class C felony.
