Coralville man accused of threatening others with handgun

IOWA CITY — A Coralville man faces weapons charges after allegedly threatening two people with a handgun.

According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, around 4:57 p.m. March 11 at 1906 Taylor Drive, 24-year-old Daveon A. Curry pulled a gun on two people and said he would kill them. The alleged victims told police they saw Curry chamber a round in the gun before pointing it out them.

Police said Curry got into the back of a Jeep Liberty and fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was located in the area of Riverside Drive and Iowa Avenue. Authorities said Curry got out of the vehicle and ran from officers. During the pursuit, he was seen tossing a silver handgun into the Iowa River.

Curry was captured and officers found two marijuana joints in his coat pocket. He was arrested and faces charges of dominion of a firearm by a felon, a Class D felony; assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor; possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor; public intoxication and interference with official acts, both simple misdemeanors.
