A 23-year-old Cedar Rapids woman faces a theft charge after she allegedly rented a U-Haul truck last month and failed to return it.

According to the criminal complaint filed on Dec. 17 by the Cedar Rapids Police Department, Miranda L. Ellis rented a U-Haul pickup truck on Dec. 2 from U-Haul Moving and Storage Co. on 16th Avenue SW and was supposed to return the truck the following day.

The complaint states Ellis failed to return the truck and “efforts to contact her or learn of her whereabouts have been unsuccessful.”

Police said the value of the truck exceeds $10,000.

A warrant was issued for Ellis’ arrest on Dec. 18 and she was taken into custody Monday.

She faces a charge of first-degree theft, a Class C felony.
