IOWA CITY — The Iowa City Fire Department said it will not be able to determine the cause of a fire that occurred at an Iowa City business last month.

On Monday, the fire department announced that Iowa City Fire Marshal Brian Greer completed his investigation into the Feb. 26 fire at Republic Services, 817 S. Capitol St. The cause of the fire is now listed as “undetermined,” the fire department said.

Crews were called to Republic Services at 4:17 p.m. for a report of a fire. Responding personnel said the business was “heavily involved with a working interior fire.” Firefighters brought the fire under control in about two hours and kept it contained to the original building.

the Iowa City Fire Department was assisted by the Coralville, Hills, Riverside, Lone Tree, Swisher, Solon, Tiffin and West Branch fire departments, Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Iowa City Water Department and MidAmerican Energy Company.
