19-year-old Cedar Rapids motorist injured after rear-end collision

A 19-year-old Cedar Rapids woman received what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries after her vehicle was struck from behind on Monday.

According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 10:22 a.m. officers received a call of a two-vehicle accident with injuries on East Post Road just north of Cottage Grove Ave.

According to the release, as emergency responders arrived on the scene, they determined an SUV had been rear ended by another SUV at that location.

Officers say that the driver of the rear vehicle, Jeffrey Spicer, 66, of Cedar Rapids, was heading south bound on East Post Road when he struck a vehicle that was stopped in the roadway waiting for turkeys to pass. The vehicle waiting on the turkeys was driven by Breanna Burhite, 19, of Cedar Rapids.

Burhite was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries, according to the release. Spicer received no injuries during the incident.

There were no other passengers in either vehicle and both drivers had been wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, according to the release. Spicer was given a citation for “following too close” according to the release.

Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies was joined by Linn County Rescue 57, the Marion Fire Department, and Area Ambulance in responding to the accident.
