Schedule: Candidate forums and debates for Linn, Johnson counties

Events scheduled throughout October

This schedule has been updated to include forums for House districts 69 and 70.

Voters in Johnson and Linn counties can hear first-hand from candidates for local and state offices at upcoming forums and debates held throughout October ahead of the Nov. 6 election.

The events will feature state Legislature candidates, county candidates, candidates for key state positions and U.S. House candidates. Here’s a schedule of events that are planned so far:

County races

Johnson County Board of Supervisors: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Iowa City Hall, in Emma Harvat Hall, 410 E. Washington St. Candidates: incumbent Janelle Rettig (D), Pat Heiden (D), Phil Hemingway (R). Hosted by League of Women Voters of Johnson County.

Linn County Board of Supervisors, District 1: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Cedar Rapids Public Library, 450 Fifth Ave. SE. Candidates: Stacey Walker (D), James Houser (no party). Hosted by League of Women Voters of Linn County.

State Legislature races

Senate District 33: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Cedar Rapids Public Library, 450 Fifth Ave. SE. Candidates: incumbent Sen. Rob Hogg (D), Edward Hayes (R). Hosted by League of Women Voters of Linn County. District 33 is in Linn County, including the northeast, southeast and parts of the southwest quadrants of Cedar Rapids.

• House District 69: 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Ladd Library, 3750 Williams Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids. Candidates: incumbent Rep. Kirsten Running-Marquardt (D), Joshua Henderson (R). Hosted by League of Women Voters of Linn County. District 69 is in southwestern Linn County, including Fairfax, Walford and part of southern Cedar Rapids.

House District 68:  7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 15, Linn-Mar High School Lecture Hall, 3111 N. 10th Street, Marion. Candidates: Molly Donahue (D), Randy Ray (R). Hosted by League of Women Voters of Linn County. District 68 is in Linn County, including the city of Marion.

Iowa Senate Districts 37 and 39, and House District 73: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct 16 at Coralville Public Library Schwab Auditorium, 1401 Fifth St. Senate 37 candidates: Zach Wahls (D), Carl A. Krambeck (L). Senate 39 candidates: incumbent Sen. Kevin Kinney (D), Heather Hora (R). House 73 candidates: incumbent Rep. Bobby Kaufmann (R), Jodi Clemens (D). Hosted by League of Women Voters of Johnson County. Senate District 37 covers eastern Johnson County, all of Cedar County and the city of Wilton in Muscatine County. District 39 is covers western Johnson and part of Washington counties and all of Keokuk County. House District 73 covers eastern Johnson County, all of Cedar County and the city of Wilton in Muscatine County.

Iowa Senate District 43: 7 to 8:30 p .m. Oct 18 at Iowa City Public Library, Rooms A-C, 123 S. Linn St. Candidates: incumbent Sen. Joe Bolkcom (D), Patrick Joseph Wronkiewicz (R). District 43 is in east central Johnson County. Hosted by League of Women Voters of Johnson County.

House District 65: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Cedar Rapids Public Library, 450 Fifth Ave. SE. Candidates: incumbent Rep. Liz Bennett (D), George Olmsted (R). Hosted by League of Women Voters of Linn County. District 65 is in Linn County, including the southeast and parts of the southwest quadrants of Cedar Rapids.

• House District 70: 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Ladd Library, 3750 Williams Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids. Candidates: Tracy Ehlert (D), Myra Matejka (R). Hosted by League of Women Voters of Linn County. District 70 is in western Linn County, including western Cedar Rapids.

Statewide and U.S. Congressional races

U.S. Congressional District 1: 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 5 at the University of Northern Iowa’s Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. Candidates: Incumbent U.S. Rep. Rod Blum (R), Abby Finkenauer (D). TV: Live on KWWL. Hosted by KWWL and UNI. District 1 includes Linn, Benton, Jones, Iowa, Buchanan and Delaware counties.

U.S. Congressional District 2: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Coralville Public Library in the Schwab Auditorium, 1401 Fifth St. Candidates: incumbent Rep. Dave Loebsack (D), Christopher Peters (R), Mark David Strauss (L), Daniel Clark (no party). Moderators: Kathie Obradocich (Des Moines Register), James Lynch (The Gazette) and Nick Weig (KGAN). TV: Live on KGAN. Hosted by the Task Force on Aging and the League of Women Voters of Johnson County. District 2 includes Johnson County.

Secretary of State: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Iowa City Hall, in Emma Harvat Hall, 410 E. Washington St. Candidates: incumbent Paul D. Pate (R), Deidre DeJear (D), Jules Ofenbakh (L). Hosted by League of Women Voters of Johnson County.

U.S. Congressional District 1: 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at the CBS 2 Studio in Cedar Rapids. Candidates: Incumbent U.S. Rep. Rod Blum (R), Abby Finkenauer (D).Moderators: Nick Weig (KGAN) and Jeff Stein (KXEL). TV: Live on KGAN and re-airs at 10 p.m. on KFXA. Online: cbs2iowa.com. Radio: Live on 1540 AM. Hosted by KGAN/KFXA and KXEL.
