Fairfield veterinarian to seek Iowa House seat

Phil Miller seeks Democratic nomination for Aug. 8 special election

CEDAR RAPIDS — Fairfield veterinarian Phil Miller is seeking the Democratic nomination to succeed Rep. Curt Hanson, also a Democrat, who recently died.

Miller works at the Fairfield veterinary practice he joined after graduating from Iowa State University.

Miller is the president of the Fairfield school board. A member of First United Methodist Church, he has served on many committees, the church council and sings in the church choir. He has served on the Jefferson County Board of Health.

Miller and his wife, Connie, have four children.

The special election for House District 82 is on Aug. 8. The district includes Davis and Van Buren counties and most of Jefferson County. The special nominating convention for Democrats will be held Friday.

No other candidates at this time have announced they are seeking the Democratic or Republican nomination.
