CEDAR RAPIDS — The 80th Street SW bridge over Highway 30 in Cedar Rapids is tentatively scheduled to open to vehicles Friday.
The Iowa Department of Transportation announced in a news release the bridge, which is part of the larger construction effort to connect Highway 100 from Edgewood Road west and south to Highway 30, will open at noon Friday, weather permitting.
The bridge’s opening comes with some changes in traffic patterns in the area including:
l Sixteenth Avenue SW, west of 80th Street, will close permanently.
l A three-way stop will be installed at 16th Avenue and 80th Street.
l Traffic on westbound 16th Avenue SW wanting to get onto westbound Highway 30 will have to turn left at the stop sign and use the new on-ramp north of the bridge.
l Traffic on westbound 16th Avenue SW wanting to get onto eastbound Highway 30 will have to turn left at the stop sign and use the old ramp south of the bridge.
l Traffic on westbound 16th Avenue SW wanting to continue on 16th Avenue Southwest will have to turn right at the stop sign and then left to get on the relocated 16th Avenue SW.
l Traffic on eastbound Highway 30 wanting to travel on 80th Street SW and/or 16th Avenue SW will use the new ramp west of the 80th Street SW bridge and then turn left to get on 16th Avenue SW.
