Crown Rally rolling exotic cars into downtown Cedar Rapids

A Bugatti Veyron is on of the first cars begin to arrive at a check point for the Crown Rally 2017 on the Third Ave bridge in downtown Cedar Rapids, June 9, 2017. The three day, 1000 mile event for exotic, luxury and sports cars started in Minneapolis and ended in Chicago with an overnight stop in Cedar Rapids. Participants are given the location of each check point but most determine their own route while obeying all traffic and speed laws with the winning team most closely matching the average speed and number of miles set by a pace car a week ago. Presented by GO Cedar Rapids, the event is moving to the downtown streets for the first time, after previously being held on the Third Avenue Bridge.

By 4 p.m. Friday the following roads will be closed:

— Second Street SE from 1st Ave East to Third Avenue SE (not including intersections)

— Third Street SE from First Avenue SE to Third Avenue SE (not including intersections)

— Second Avenue SE from Second Street SE to 50 feet east of Third Street SE

These closures will continue through Saturday, and will wrap into the closures for the Farmers Market. All downtown streets will be reopened by 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Crown Rally Block Party will feature a selection of local cars in the early hours, with the official Crown Rally cars from across the Midwest arriving downtown at 6:30 p.m. The event will include beer sales within the licensed premises, food, a musical lineup, and family-friendly activities.
