Cedar Rapids Heart Walk moved to Kirkwood Community College due to flooding

The 2018 Cedar Rapids Heart Walk, scheduled for this Sunday at McGrath Amphitheatre, is one of many events that has been affected by projected rising water levels.

According to a media release, due to the potential of flooding, the event, sponsored locally by Transamerica and Mercy Medical Center, has been moved to Kirkwood Community College’s Linn Hall and the nearby west parking lot.

Check-in for the Heart Walk begins at 8 a.m. Sunday with the Opening Ceremony at 9 a.m. and the walk at 9:30.

According to the release, the walk is held annually to celebrate those who have made lifestyle changes in an effort to improve their heart-health, and encourages others to take the pledge to live healthier lifestyles, while raising the funding needed for lifesaving research and education.
