Rideres are flowing into Iowa City during day 6 of the RAGBRAI trip across Iowa. Among a multitude of stops, Big Grove Brewery and Taproom is along the route, and are expecting a large crowd of riders to visit.

Included in that group were a pair of riders from Minneapolis.

“Why do you come to Iowa to ride a bike? Because everybody’s happy, having fun. Good food, good beer, good riding,” said Mark Noble, 55, of Minneapolis. “Living the dream.”

Noble and his teammate Phillip Swenson, 40, also from Minneapolis, were taking a lunch break break at Big Grove Taproom after hearing beer recommendations from locals.

The duo is part of a team called Shut Up and Peddle “because there’s a lot of whiners. Just shut up and peddle. It’s not that hard,” Noble said with a laugh.

Their team is mostly from Minnesota and Omaha and totals about 20 and plan to camp in Napoleon Park.

“RAGBRAI was the first time ever coming to Iowa,“ Swenson said, adding that he’s never been to Iowa City before but heard it had good breweries in the area.

Friday is “college day” on the route so Noble wore his University of Minnesota jersey. He said he stumbled across a Hawkeye fan and Cyclone fan riding together.

“I was kinda like ‘Hawkeye, you’re not going to let that Cyclone guy beat ya.’ And then (they) started out pacing each other,” Noble said.
