The owner of the Zio Johno’s Spaghetti House chain will relocate two of his restaurants in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
Eli Khairallah, who owns the Zio Johno’s in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Marion and North Liberty, said remodeling has begun on a 3,600-square-foot building at 3120 Edgewood Rd. SW in preparation for a move from 2925 Williams Parkway SW.
“We should be open at the former Fazoli’s building within two months,” Khairallah said. “We have had good business at our current location. We were planning to remodel the building, but we would rather spend the money where the restaurant will have more visibility.”
Zio Johno’s has been leasing 4,000 square feet of space in a former bank building near MidAmerican Aerospace and Capri College. Khairallah said the new location near Walmart at 3601 29th Ave. SW will have a drive-up window.
The Zio Johno’s at 953 S. Riverside Dr. in Iowa City will be relocated to space in the former Paul’s Discount building at 424 Highway 1, he said.
“We expect that location to be open in about three and a half months,” Khairallah said. “Harbor Freight is taking part of the space in the former Paul’s and we will be leasing part of the building.”
Khairallah said the new locations will serve as model stores when he begins franchising Zio Johno’s.
Paul’s Discount closed on July 14, 2018, after 36 years in Iowa City.
