Prepare your stomachs, Cedar Rapids.

A new doughnut shop will come to the city later this year.

Jen Bentley, a Cedar Rapids resident, plans to open a Donut Experiment franchise in the Fountains, at the corner of Blairs Ferry Road and Edgewood Road NE. Bentley said she hopes the store is open by Thanksgiving.

Started in Florida, Donut Experiment allows customers to customize their own doughnuts from the type of icing to its toppings.

“You experiment and make whatever you want,” Bentley said.

Bentley and her family first got a taste of Donut Experiment while on vacation in Florida.

“There’s just nothing like that here. We knew right then that Cedar Rapids would love this. It could cater to everybody, from people who like the simple doughnuts to people who really want something strange, like a sriracha doughnut,” she said.

Bentley said her store also will sell coffee and lattes, as well as flavored soda.
