Osgood’s, a sandwich shop in the Armstrong building food court at 210 Third Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, is closing. The cafe announced on Facebook the last day in business will be Jan. 17.
Bruce and Sandy Ford opened the eatery in May 2018, serving bagels and salad. They dropped bagels in September 2019 in favor of sandwiches, in an attempt to increase revenue.
“Sales never reached the anticipated level,” Bruce Ford told The Gazette at the time. “We wanted time to focus on lunchtime offerings and grow the catering side of the business.”
Iowa City mainstay coffee shop Java House has opened a new North Liberty location, 555 Highway 965, Suite A, in Quail Creek Plaza. The spot includes a drive-through and a limited Heirloom Salad Co. menu from the downtown Java House location’s sister restaurant. The location previously housed Corridor Coffee. Co.
Nile Ethiopian has closed in Coralville.
Kiya Sultan opened the restaurant in April 2017 at 89 Second St., Coralville, serving Ethiopian dishes. He also owns Nile Hookah Bar, 220 S. Van Buren St., Iowa City, where an employee confirmed Nile Ethiopian is closed.
Burger chain Five Guys is coming to Coralville. The restaurant, which features made-to-order burgers, fries and hot dogs, is slated to open in March at 2651 James St., in the Coral Galleria.
The Arlington, Virginia-based restaurant has almost 1,500 locations around the world, including in Ames, Dubuque and West Des Moines.
