What’s cooking? It turns out food festivals are in season.
This annual beer and food festival will feature a range of international beers selected by Doug Alberhasky of John’s Grocery in Iowa City, plus drink offerings from local brewers, along with copious food samples prepared by area restaurants. Celebrity auctioneer Nicholas D. Lowry of Antiques Roadshow fame will lead the live auction at this event that raises funds for the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.

Celebrate apple season at this festival dedicated to fall fruit. Take the Apfelfest Sampling Stroll and visit a variety of businesses that will all have something apple-themed to sample; turn in a finished stroll brochure for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate. Looking for more than samples? Try Amana Meat Shop’s Apple Gouda Brats, available at the shop to take home or at Millstream Breery on the grill. Other restaurants will feature dishes like honey apple pork loin, apple pizza, and Germany-style apple strudel. End the day with the Ox Yoke Inn’s five-course Vintner’s Dinner, featuring apples in each course along with a wine pairing.

Food Truck Festival
Food trucks, assemble! A variety of local mobile food purveyors will be parked outside Benz Beverage Depot, where patrons can purchase a beer to wash down their food truck food feast. The suggested donation for entry benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Cedar Rapids.

NewBo City Market is hosting it’s first ever Oktoberfest, presented by Iowa Brewing Company. Come out to celebrate fall with German-style food, beer, music and entertainment like giant yard games such as keg bowling and cornhole. Guests may purchase NewBo Oktoberfest beer steins to receive specials and discounts from NewBo Beer & Wine, and Iowa Brewing Company will serve their Oktoberfest beer, Iowa Fest. A hog roast begins at 6 p.m. and includes roast pig, side dishes, desserts, a stein glass to commemorate the evening and a free stein fill.

BBQ Rib Cook-Off
Dig into some barbecue and vote for your favorite cook at this event sponsored by the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department and Marion Masonic Lodges 6, 25 and 263. Entertainment includes live music, tours, historic demonstrations and crafts, games and live ponies to pet from Miracles in Motion. All profits support Camp Tanager, Miracles in Motion and Willis Dady.
