If April showers bring May flowers, those flowers — and early spring produce, baked goods, honey, cheese, meat and more — are once again available at summer farmers markets across the Corridor.
The Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers’ Market won’t return until May 25, but markets in Iowa City, Coralville and the Cedar Rapids market at Noelridge Park, Marion and elsewhere are beginning now.
Melissa McCarville, communications manager for the Cedar Rapids Economic Alliance, said there will only be minor changes to the Downtown Market this year. Instead of a main stage with entertainment in Greene Square, the park will be used as a kids zone activity area, with live music moved to platform stages spread throughout the market. The final market of the seasons will be Sept. 21 instead of at the beginning of September, based on feedback from vendors who said they wanted to share fall produce with customers.
The footprint of the market will shift slightly due to road construction. Details are still being finalized, but the market is anticipated to run on the blocks between First Street SE and Sixth Street SE and First Avenue SE and Fifth Avenue SE.
The Downtown Farmers’ Markets are expected to have around 200 vendors again this year with a mix of produce, prepared food and crafts.
The popular Market After Dark will return Aug. 24 from 6:30 to 11 p.m.
