The circus is coming to Cedar Rapids.

On Saturday, Grand Living at Indian Creek, 325 Collins Rd. SE, will host Cirque of Cedar Rapids, “a night of creative performance inspired by the new age circus.”

That translates to aerialists — performers who soar above the crowd on silks and hoops — as well as stilt walkers, aerial bartenders and a grand finale showcasing aerialist Mimi Ke, fire dancing and live music by Hannah Drollinger, “The Bohemian Fiddler.” Carnival-inspired food and cocktails will be served.

The event is open to the public and is a fundraiser for The Longest Day, an initiative of the Alzheimer’s Association. That’s a cause near and dear to Grand Living’s staff and residents. The senior living facility has independent living, assisted living and memory care services.

“We are beyond excited to showcase these talented performers and at the same time give the Cedar Rapids community a look around our building and everything that Grand Living offers,” said Grand Living at Indian Creek marketing transition coordinator Jessica-Leigh Arends, in a news release. “It’s an added bonus to be able to give back to the Alzheimer’s Association as well — a cause very dear to our hearts.”

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the show starting at 5 p.m. The event is free, with donations accepted on the behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association. Parking and seating may be limited; people can RSVP at (319) 930-3250 or bit.ly/GLIC-RSVP.

The Longest Day initiative marks June 21, the summer solstice. On and around the solstice, people across the country hold fundraising events for the association.

According to the association’s website, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and it is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.
