Luther College alum Jill Osier received the 2019 Yale Series of Younger Poets prize for her manuscript “The Solace Is Not the Lullaby.” It will be published by Yale University Press in April 2020.

Osier, who know lives in Fairbanks, Alaska, graduated Luther in 1996 with a dgree in English.

Osier’s piece, “The Solace is Not the Lullaby” is a collection of poems that center on the human and natural world.

“She has a very intense lyrical voice, it’s very connected to real things in the real world, and yet her poems take you to a place that is kind of luminous and otherworldly,” said Lise Kildegaard, professor of English at Luther College.

The Yale Series of Younger Poets prize is the oldest annual literary award in the United States. For poetry, the award is the equivalent of the Pulizer or Booker prize.

Osier also is the author of chapbooks “Bedful of Nebraskas,” “Should Our Undoing Come Down Upon Us White” and “from.”
