CARMEL, Ind. - Zach Johnson is five-under-par after one round at the PGA Tour's BMW Championship, which acts as the second-to-last tournament of the season and is one of four tournaments that will help decide which golfer will win the FedEx Cup.
Johnson started on the back nine at Crooked Stick Golf Club and made no front-side birdies on the way to a four-under-par opening nine, which included an eagle on the par-5 15th hole. Johnson made two other birdies on his front side to shoot 32.
On his last nine holes, Johnson made his only bogey of the day (on the par-3 sixth), but followed it up with a birdie on the eighth to shoot a first round 67.
Johnson is three shots back of the leaders, which include Rory McIlroy, Bo Van Pelt, Webb Simpson and Graham DeLaet. All four players are eight-under-par after Thursday's round.
Johnson, a Cedar Rapids native, tees off his second round at 8:28 a.m. CT Friday.
