AMES – Iowa State quarterback Jacob Park asked coach Matt Campbell for a release from his scholarship so he would be free to transfer to another school.
The Des Moines Register first reported the news Monday night.
Park, a redshirt junior, was Iowa State's starting quarterback from the Oklahoma game in 2016 through the Oklahoma game of the 2017 season. He was 4-4 as a starter for Iowa State.

On Oct. 6, before the Oklahoma game, it was announced he took a leave from the football team for 'personal health reasons.' The Register reported Park failed a drug test for marijuana and would have been suspended against OU.
He never returned to Iowa State's team.
'Our football staff and administration has been proactive in helping Jacob improve academically, athletically and socially during his leave of absence from the team,' Campbell said in a statement released by Iowa State. 'If he feels it is in his best interest to transfer to another school, we will support his decision and help him in the process.'
Park passed for 1,181 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions in four games this season before senior walk-on Kyle Kempt took over.
