IOWA CITY - Forty-four University of Iowa student-athletes have been named to the 2015 Big Ten Fall Academic All-Conference team. The list includes student-athletes from football (16), field hockey (7), women's soccer (6), men's cross country (6), volleyball (5), and women's cross country (4).
The 16 football selections are the most for the program since 2010, while the men's cross country team has six selections for a second straight season.
The Big Ten Conference recognized a total of 1,023 fall sports athletes. The list includes 95 field hockey players, 306 football players, 97 men's and 152 women's cross country runners, 92 men's and 181 women's soccer student-athletes and 100 volleyball players.
Twenty-one of these student-athletes have maintained unblemished GPAs, including Iowa soccer senior Sarah Mazur.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten, student-athletes must be letterwinners and be in at least their second academic year at the institution. They must also carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
