Indiana 95, Iowa 73: 3 Takeaways, Highlights

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The seventh-seeded Iowa men's basketball team suffered a 95-73 defeat to No. 10 seed Indiana in the Big Ten tournament Thursday. 

Here are three takeaways from the game.

1. Defensive disappearance

Iowa had made great strides on defense to end the season, forcing turnovers and winning rebounding battles throughout the four-game regular-season-ending win streak. That ended at the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday in Washington, D.C., with a 95-73 loss to Indiana.

The Hooisers shot 60.3 percent from the field – 67.9 percent in the second half – outscored Iowa 35-17 off the bench, 46-32 in the paint and outrebounded Iowa 38-29.

The Hoosiers also finished the game with 1.218 points per possession.

For the fourth straight season, the Hawkeyes ended their Big Ten Tournament with the first game – and all four losses came to a double-digit seed, as the 10th-seeded Hoosiers upended the seventh-seeded Hawkeyes on Thursday night.

Senior guard Peter Jok will leave Iowa having never won a game at the Big Ten Tournament, as well.

The positives out of the lopsided loss, though, were Jordan Bohannon and Cordell Pemsl. Bohannon finished with 24 points on 6 of 11 shooting from 3-point range, while Pemsl had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Coming into the Big Ten Tournament, Iowa was firmly on the bubble for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, being featured in several bracketology experts' field projections.

It's likely the Hawkeyes will no longer reside on the bubble Friday morning after such a big loss to an Indiana team that sputtered down the stretch of the Big Ten season.

Iowa's four-game win streak to end the season likely ensures an NIT bid, which could mean another game in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
