Hawkeyes to face Davidson in Seattle

IOWA CITY — Iowa earned its second consecutive NCAA tournament bid and will play Davidson at Seattle on Friday.
The Hawkeyes earned the seventh seed, their highest since 2006 when they were a three seed. The Iowa-Davidson winner will play the Gonzaga-North Dakota State winner. The teams compete in the South Region, which ends in Houston. Davidson finished 24-7 and won the Atlantic-10 title.
Iowa and Davidson have played once in 1969.

It's the first time the Hawkeyes (21-11) have picked up back-to-back NCAA bids since 2004-05 and 2005-06. Last year Iowa was an 11 seed and played Tennessee in the First Four in Dayton.

Iowa has a history in Seattle playing in the Sweet Sixteen in both 1987 and 1988. In 1987, the Hawkeyes beat Oklahoma then lost to UNLV in the Elite Eight. In 1988, Iowa lost to Arizona in the Sweet Sixteen.
The Hawkeyes also played regular-season games in Seattle in 1955 and twice in 1966.
Potential Sweet Sixteen opponents include Iowa State, UAB, SMU and UCLA.
Also appearing in Seattle includes Northern Iowa, which is a fifth seed in the East Region. UNI plays Wyoming, while No. 4 seed Louisville faces Cal-Irvine.
