Iowa City Police Capt. Denise Brotherton said Tuesday that the department is investigating a reported assault in front of DC’s bar in downtown Iowa City. The video of the attack on Iowa men’s basketball player Jordan Bohannon shows DC’s in the background.
Brotherton said the man who reported being assaulted at the bar requested an ambulance to the hospital. No arrests have been made.
No other information is available due to the active nature of the investigation, Brotherton said.

Iowa City police do not publicly name victims or witnesses in assault cases and therefore couldn’t confirm they were investigating the alleged attack on Bohannon. ICPD officials did say they are investigating a report of an assault that fits what is known about the Bohannon incident.
The University of Iowa announced Monday afternoon that Bohannon was attacked early Sunday and had what was termed a “serious head injury.”
“Jordan Bohannon was physical (sic) assaulted early Sunday morning in Iowa City. Bohannon is recovering after receiving medical attention to treat a serious head injury,” a news release from the UI’s sports information department said.
“Thankfully Jordan is recovering well after being attacked by an individual he did not see coming at him,” Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery said in the release. “We were made aware of the incident immediately. We are grateful that friends who were with Jordan at the time kept the incident from escalating. His health is our number one concern.”
A phone video of Bohannon getting struck at DC’s Sports Bar in Iowa City was being shared online Monday.
Bohannon, the Hawkeyes’ all-time leader in assists and 3-point field goals, announced last month that he was returning for one last season with the Hawkeyes.
