Former Kernels skipper Mosiello leaves Angels

Jun. 24, 2011 4:00 am
Bill Mosiello has left the Los Angeles Angels for the University of Tennessee.
The former Cedar Rapids Kernels skipper told his Double-A Arkansas Travelers after their game at Springfield on Thursday night that he is leaving his post and the Angels organization to become an assistant coach at Tennessee. Mosiello is longtime friends with new Tennessee Coach Dave Serrano.
Sources said Mosiello did not receive a pay raise in his three years with the Angels, including the previous two as manager for the Kernels. His stint in Cedar Rapids included back-to-back playoff berths.

It was uncertain who would take over Mosiello's post with Arkansas, though sources said a combination of roving instructors Todd Takayoshi and Bobby Mitchell could be used. Arkansas won the North Division of the Texas League in the first half and was 2-0 in the second half.
Mosiello has had a vagabond existence in baseball as an assistant coach at several high-profile programs such as Arizona State and Auburn, as well as stints in the professional ranks with the Angels and Yankees.
