South Side Street Foods opens new food truck in Iowa City

Chef Daniel Velasquez is cooking up his signature fry bread and street foods with a nod to his Native American culture.

The South Side Street Foods truck opened in April, but posted a full week of hours on social media this week. In addition to fry breads, Velasquez will be rolling out tacos and burgers in the coming weeks.

The owner is a member of the Yaqui tribe, which is native to the Rio Grande Valley rooted along the border between the U.S. and Mexico.

You can find Velasquez’s food truck at 1927 Keokuk St., the usual spot, this week in Iowa City on Thursday and Friday from noon to 7 p.m. On Saturday, the truck will be at Pepperwood Plaza from 1 to 7 p.m. for the Diversity Market.
