New food truck event coming to Iowa City’s South District Market

IOWA CITY — This is their first rodeo.

The Food Truck Rodeo, a new gathering of food trucks in Iowa City’s South District, will soon hold its first event. The pilot, open to all food truck owners in Iowa who want to showcase their cuisine, kicks off June 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the new South District Market parking lot at 947 Highway 6.

“We want to create a consistent platform for food truck owners from all over the state of Iowa to come together, showcase their culinary creations, and offer residents and visitors a unique experience,” said Tasha Lard, lead organizer.

After launching, the food truck rodeo will host trucks with tasty treats every Monday and Tuesday from June 12 to Aug. 22. The rodeo season is a collaborations between M.O.G.U.L. Consulting, Southgate Companies, Pepperwood Plaza Association and the South District Market.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for food truck owners to grow their brand and reach new customers while bringing more foot traffic into the new business district, which helps increase awareness of established businesses,” said Angie Jordan, executive director of South of 6 Iowa City, the new business district hosting the event.
