McDonald’s opens new location near Lindale Mall, replacing one Marion restaurant

CEDAR RAPIDS — A new McDonald’s location opened Sept. 7 at 4520 First Ave. NE, south of Von Maur’s parking lot at Lindale Mall.

The new location, opened after several months of construction, replaces the Thomas Park franchise up the street in Marion. That location, at 100 Sixth Ave., closed on Aug. 18.

The changes, planned over the past several years, are among the first made under operator Justine Macchione.

Macchione now operates 25 corporate-owned restaurants under McDonald’s Restaurants of Iowa. Twenty-two of the locations were formerly owned by franchisee Kevin O’Brien, who retired in October 2021; three were formerly owned by Jerry Mrozinski, who retired in December.

“I have many visions for the area over the next several years. I addition to remodeling several locations, I am exploring rebuilding some of the older buildings,” Macchione told The Gazette. “Growth is never off the table, especially with the support we have received in the Cedar Rapids area.”
