CEDAR RAPIDS — The Solid Waste Agency has opened the Mount Trashmore trails and overlook for the 2022 season, though hours of operation are weather permitting. Weather-related closures always are posted on the Mount Trashmore website: https://www.solidwasteagency.org/mount-trashmore
Trail conditions may still be soft. Stumptown Trail is available to walkers and runners and Overlook Trail is available to walkers and bicyclists. Trashmore Trail, the downhill flow trail for bicyclists only, still is undergoing maintenance and is not ready for use yet. Trashmore Trail is expected to open in the weeks ahead.
Normal operating hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (closed on Easter Sunday, April 17). All visitors need to check-in at recreation building 948 and fill out a waiver that is good for the entire year. There are kiosks for the check-in process. Also inside recreation building 948 are restrooms, a hydration station, bicycle repair stations, gathering space, and trail staff to answer questions.
