Home / Former Transamerica buildings on Edgewood Road to be demolished
CEDAR RAPIDS — Three office buildings formerly occupied by Transamerica on Edgewood Road NE, just south of Highway 100, will be demolished, contractor D.W. Zinser told The Gazette.
David Zinser, D.W. Zinser president, said interior work on the demolition already has begun.
Exterior demolition is likely to begin July 19, Zinser said, and be complete near Halloween.
“It will be quite the spectacle,” Zinser said.
The buildings, at 4333 Edgewood Rd. NE, have been for sale since March along with its buildings on 4425 and 4415 N. River Blvd. NE, as part of Transamerica’s consolidation of office space.
Transamerica parent company AEGON is selling the property, according to records from the Cedar Rapids Assessor’s Office. Coldwell Banker Hedges Realty is brokering the sale.
The plans for the space after the demolition are not clear. It’s also not been made public if a buyer has been lined up.
As of mid-November, Transamerica had about 3,800 employees in Cedar Rapids, according to city economic development staff.
The company laid off 53 employees at the end of November, according to a WARN notice filed with the state.
