Kids go after a football as they play on the lawn April 25 at “Plant Your Dreams,” an event hosted by the Academy for Scholastic and Personal Success and Worldmaker International at the Big Apple Orchard in Mount Vernon. The event is part of a new curriculum offered by the academy and Worldmaker. Students were invited to write their dreams on paper and plant them along with a Liberty apple tree on the orchard’s property. (Rebecca F. Miller/The Gazette)
When I’m out on an assignment, I like to wander away from the main action and see what else is going on that tells the story of the event. After covering the “Plant Your Dreams” tree planting in another field, I was drawn to a group of kids playing a spontaneous game of catch on the orchard lawn. It’s a photo that is meant to capture a different aspect of the event — in this case, the joy of these kids taking advantage of an open grassy area on a sunny day.
