WILLIAM "BILL" FREDERICK KENT
Iowa City

William "Bill" Frederick Kent died Dec. 9, 2020. Bill was born May 1, 1959, to Thomas and Ann (Johnson) Kent in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from West High School, and attended Washington University in St Louis, Mo.
Seeing no future in the real world, he turned to bridge where he excelled. Bill became a Grand Life Master in 2006. Bill also won a national title in 2004 and numerous sectional and regional events.
He not only participated in the bridge events but contributed greatly to the game by running numerous unit, local and regional events. He led the unit in points won for many years.
Bill enjoyed people, especially Iowa City bridge players. His greatest pleasures came as a club director where he helped many players who looked to him for support and advice and became his closest friends.
Bill loved to read all kinds of books — bridge, fiction, non-fiction. His home away from home was the Iowa City Library. He also enjoyed watching old movies.
He is survived by his sisters, Judy A. Putney, Santa Rosa, Calif., and Sally A. (Chad) Sell, Eden Prairie, Minn. He is also survived by his favorite nephews and nieces, Justin (Julia Pustizzi) Putney, San Rafael, Calif., Heather A. (Nick, and their children, Henry, 7, and Daphne, 4) Ludvigson, Santa Rosa, Calif., Nikolas. S. (Natalie) Sell, Eden Prairie, Minn., Mikalyna A. Sell, Chanhassen, Minn., Natalie A. Sell, Fairfax, Va., and Calder T. Sell Minneapolis, Minn.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas H. Kent and Ann L. (Johnson) Kent.
Bill's wish was that his family and friends get together at Kent Park. When it is safe, there will be a Celebration of Life for him and his father, Tom Kent, who died Nov. 21, 2020. Thoughts may be shared with the family at www.lensingfuneral.com.
