Vivien Hayden

Vivien Eloise Hayden, 88, of Canon City, Colo., passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Garden Ranch Senior Care in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Vivien was born Dec. 1, 1929, to Ralph and Esther Peck, at the Peck family farm
in Anamosa, Iowa. She was the youngest
of four siblings. She married Donald Lewis Hayden on Jan. 5, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. Their one and only child, Donna Lewise Hayden, was born on March 29, 1949. Her entrance into the world was difficult for both mother and baby; nonetheless they both survived and thrived. Donna was the apple of her parents' eye. The spoils were many.
Don and Vivien owned Hayden Produce and the Town Tap in Anamosa for many years. Don and Vivien looked West for a frontier adventure and relocated from Iowa to Colorado in the early 1970s. They settled on a large and dusty ranch in Meeker, Colo. Vivien, or Strawberry Shortcake, as was her CB radio handle, was the perfect rancher's wife. Meals at the D Lazy P Ranch were bountiful, fresh fruits and vegetables from her garden, cultivated by her love of gardening. Deer and elk season brought hunters from all over the United States and Vivien's hospitality was second to none.
Don and Vivien moved back to Iowa in the mid-1980s, only to return to Colorado for one last time and spend their final years in Canon City, closer to family.
Vivien was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ralph and Esther Peck; her siblings, Robert Peck, Orlyn Peck and Eileen Siebels; her husband, Donald Hayden; and a grandson, Patrick Joseph Schwers.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Schwers and husband, Charles Schwers, of Colorado Springs; grandson, Eric Schwers of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter, Kim Rutherford and husband, Ken Rutherford; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Campbell, Duncan and Lucie Rutherford, all of Harrisonburg, Va.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Garden Ranch Senior Care, 5075 Saddle Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80918.
Special thanks to Isabelle Bartow of Canon City and Colleen, Mandy and Melissa at Garden Ranch Senior Care for their care and devotion to Vivien.
A celebration of Vivien's life will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa, where friends may register after 9:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Wilcox Cemetery in Viola, Iowa. A reception will follow at Tyler & Downing's Eatery in Anamosa.
